In late 2007, the future of independent student media at North Bay's Education Centre campus seemed bleak; with Nipissing University's 'official student newspaper,' The Hibou, facing extinction and Canadore College's 'Claw' enjoying a small audience, the time seemed ripe for change.

Then, almost out of nowhere, The Campus Free Press was born, and its founders began work, gathering interest, advertisers and most importanly, know-how. Editor-in-Chief Peter Magill worked earnestly to understand the intricacies of layout and design, and thankfully, the work paid off.
